Meet the University Outlook Board of Advisors

We are pleased to introduce University Outlook’s Board of Advisors, which will meet regularly to critique each magazine edition; offer suggestions, guidance and commentary about future editorial content; and provide valuable insights to help shape its vision. We are excited to have these outstanding education professionals on board!

Robert G. Atkins

CEO and Founder
Gray Associates Inc.
Atkins is the CEO and Founder of Gray Associates, a strategy consulting firm focused on the education industry. He has more than 20 years of experience helping clients develop and implement corporate, marketing and sales strategies. In education, he has led engagements on corporate growth strategy, location development, campus rationalization, program portfolio analysis, marketing and placement. Atkins’ clients have included AT&T, IBM, American Express, UTI and Alta Colleges. He graduated from Harvard University magna cum laude and Harvard Business School with honors.

Dr. Robert L. Caret

University of Massachusetts
Caret is the 26th President of the University of Massachusetts, which celebrates the 150th anniversary of its founding this year. The University of Massachusetts system, with 70,000 students, consists of the flagship campus in Amherst, along with campuses in Boston, Dartmouth, Lowell and Worcester. The university has an annual operating budget of $2.9 billion, graduates more than 15,000 students a year and has nearly 450,000 alumni worldwide. A native New Englander, Caret assumed the presidency of UMass after completing highly successful presidencies at San Jose State University and Towson University. He received his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of New Hampshire and his Bachelor's degree in chemistry and mathematics from Suffolk University.

Basil Cleveland

EVP and Cofounder
Shorelight Education
Cleveland is Executive Vice President and Cofounder of Shorelight Education. Shorelight's mission is to fund and manage joint venture partnerships with leading universities, and Cleveland specializes in offshore, hybrid and transnational education; multiparty collaborations; product design; contract negotiation; and entrepreneurial ventures in the Asia Pacific region that leverage local and partner intellectual property to create new stakeholder value. He previously served as Senior Vice President for Kaplan Global Solutions, based out of Hong Kong, where he provided strategic and analytic insight into emerging higher education markets and was responsible for business development efforts across the Asia Pacific region. Cleveland holds a Ph.D. in philosophy and literature from Boston University where he also earned an M.F.A. in poetry.

Marcel Dalziel

Managing Director
PlattForm, UK
Dalziel is Managing Director of PlattForm, UK and former Managing Director of MJD Consultancy in Coventry, England, focusing on international activities and the global strategy of education without borders. Born in Durham, England, Dalziel spent his school years studying and living in South Africa, Australia and the UK, which helped develop his passion for education and the international student experience. After completing his B.S. in geography in 1998, he joined Hobsons UK and developed their international media portfolio. He launched MJD Consultancy in 2005, an education-only advertising agency focused on delivering expert advice on domestic and international media to universities around the world. In 2011 Dalziel launched The Student World, a series of successful study abroad fairs focused on helping international universities recruit UK students, and plans to launch similar fairs in the United States, Australia, South Africa and the Middle East.

Jeff Keith

Operating Partner
Sterling Partners
Keith has a proven record as a seasoned higher education executive in the areas of regulation, accreditation, finance, operations and acquisitions. He joined Sterling Partners in 2011 as an Operating Partner specializing in postsecondary education. Keith previously served with TCS Education System, a $110 million entrepreneurial education system, as Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President for the parent organization and Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of TCS Global. He played an instrumental role in creating the TCS Education System, the first Type II SO not-for-profit/for-profit system in higher education. Keith is a Peer Evaluator for the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and serves as the Chair of the financial review committee. Keith holds an M.S. in finance from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), an MBA and B.S. in economics and management from Purdue University, and a graduate certification in law and financial markets from the Kent College of Law/Stuart Graduate School of Business at IIT. He also completed the IEM program in higher education at The Harvard Graduate School of Education and the Endowment Institute at Yale University.   

John E. Neal

COO and Senior Vice President
Capital Education
Neal is COO and Senior Vice President of Business Development for Capital Education, where he assists colleges and universities in the strategic planning and development of virtual learning environments. During the past 20 years, Neal has led the development of adult programming offered through campus-based programs, online delivery and satellite campuses throughout the United States, Europe and the Pacific Rim. Neal is the co-author of Measuring Up: The Promises and Pitfalls of Performance Indicators in Higher Education and has published and spoken internationally on issues related to quality assessment and accountability. He holds a B.S. from Welch College, an M.S. from Middle Tennessee State University and an Ed.D. in higher education administration from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University.

Ann Oleson

CEO and Founder
Converge Consulting
Oleson is CEO and Founder of Converge Consulting, a next generation digital marketing company. Oleson previously served as Director of Consulting for a premier higher education marketing firm, where she developed integrated marketing programs for colleges and universities nationwide. She has worked with dozens of not-for-profit and higher education clients, including University of Michigan, Northwestern and DePaul University, where she currently plays an integral role in developing data-driven communication strategies that drive measurable results. Oleson has spoken to large audiences on various innovative marketing topics across the country, from CASE Summit to the American Marketing Association. She is passionately involved with many not-for-profit organizations, from the board level to volunteering with United Way, Big Brothers Big Sisters and Junior League. Oleson earned her B.S. in business marketing from Iowa State University and is currently working on her MBA.

Leonard A. Schlesinger

Baker Foundation Professor
Harvard University Business School
Schlesinger is currently the Baker Foundation Professor of Business Administration at Harvard University Business School. Previously, he served as President Emeritus at Babson College;Senior Vice President, Counselor to the President and Professor at Brown University; Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer for Limited Brands; and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Au Bon Pain. Schlesinger has authored or co-authored 12 books on management and organizational behavior, entrepreneurship, and service management. He serves on the boards of directors of the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in Massachusetts, the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship, and Viewpost, LLC. Schlesinger holds a DBA in organizational behavior from Harvard Business School, an MBA in corporate and labor relations from Columbia University, and a B.A. in American civilization from Brown University.

Vicki Tambellini

President and CEO
The Tambellini Group
Tambellini founded The Tambellini Group (TTG) in 2001. TTG is a consulting firm that provides management strategy recommendations and detailed expert research and advisory services for higher education executives. In 2009, Tambellini founded Enterprise Hive, LLC, a company that develops, markets and supports enterprise-class social business software, gamification software and data-as-a-service software. She has more than 25 years of experience as an award-winning software company executive, author, blogger, consultant, guest speaker and entrepreneur. She has received numerous awards and honors from companies including PeopleSoft, Oracle and NCR and has been a guest speaker at SACUBO, the Oracle HEUG, eLearning Summit Events, Smart Woman's Network, Richmond Venture Forum and numerous private venues. Tambellini received a B.S. from Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Business, as well as the Platinum Learning Professional Certification Award from the eLearning Institute in recognition of her contributions to the field of learning.
