Liz Falconer is professor of technology-enhanced learning and director of the Education Innovation Centre at the University of the West of England in Bristol, England. She began her career as an environmental health officer in local government before moving into private industry and becoming a hygiene and safety officer for part of British Oxygen. In 1987, Falconer joined the University of Salford to lecture in occupational safety and risk management and to lead a master’s programme in occupational safety and health that could be studied in both attended and nonattended modes. In 2001, she joined the University of Bath as director of the Centre for Distance Education and then moved to the University of the West of England to lead e-learning development in 2003. She now leads the Education Innovation Centre there, which concentrates upon research, development and practice in the innovative use of technology to enhance learning. She is the programme manager of the MA Education in Virtual Worlds.
